A subjective list by a totally NOT objective listener. But these are great songs! Here is two sentences on each of my favorite 10.
Dead Horse – Yard Act
Can’t get enough of this tune. This is just a badass take on the Post-Brexit New Wave sound that brings to mind some old Cake jams.
Tangled – Ceramic Animal
Slick rock/pop tune. Warren Regan delivers understated vocals that hit just right.
you in everything – Gang of Youths
Big big production and David Le'aupepe’s rich deep vocals. A song I’ll keep with me for a lifetime.
To Feel Young – Tennis Courts
One of my favorite up-and-coming bands. “To Feel Young” highlights some new vocal styles for the band and continues its evolution of sound.
These are the Days – Inhaler
One of Ireland’s best bands. This song is nostalgic and the production has some elements that remind me of the Psychedelic Furs’ Mirror Moves album.
Madison – Drug Dealer
It doesn’t get smoother than Drug Dealer. This tune will remind older listeners of the great Steely Dan.
Every Morning – The Avenues
The Avenues keep cranking out awesome tunes. This one jams (especially at the 2:20 mark.
Chapstick – COIN
This is an American take on the Post-Brexit New Wave sound and it’s perfect. This might be the best song on the list.
Weeds – Beach Bunny
Beach Bunny’s Emotional Creature is definitely one of my favorite summer albums. “Weeds” is a tight rock tune that exemplifies so many of the things Beach Bunny does well.
Free – Florence & The Machine
This band is literally a machine that keeps cranking out great music (and this one is fun). Then there is Florence Welch’s voice and ability to break through the sound and a line.
